CHANEL no. 4 (am)
Hand-painted mural, NYC
In the world of billboards, CHANEL is particular in where and who they advertise with. They are a “King Maker,” or “Queen Maker,” of sorts in their selection of locations for Out Of Home advertising. When you see a CHANEL ad in the wild, you can be sure it was carefully selected by their team to meet the standards that they emulate with their company’s curation and style. Once a location is given their stamp of approval, other brands look to showcase their work on the same wallscapes.
CHANEL’s high-fashion photography is captivating and lends itself beautifully to hand-painted murals. Striking photos of celebrities with the clothing, perfumes, and other iconic collections CHANEL is known for. Bright colors, bold, clean typography, fit nicely on top of brick and mortar. The strong design lends itself perfectly to impactful ads.
I’ve been fortunate to have the chance to hand-paint some of their campaigns during my career as a Walldog, with two of those times being under the banner of 4am Somewhere. Personally and professionally, it means a lot to be trusted by a company with high expectations. It solidifies my focused approach to work, which is one of craftsmanship and skill. There is a saying in the industry that you are only as good as your last painting, and this is something I take to heart. To have that importance reflected and looked at by such an influential company, even for just a small section of a campaign, helps keep the drive and quality at the forefront of what I do.
